Re: the book
Sun, May 23, 2004 - 8:04 PMIt's the same writer as Last Exit to Brooklyn. I haven't read it yet, but it's a great, dark film and it stars my (actress) hero Jennifer Jason Leigh.
FYI - On the DVD of Requiem, if you listen to the director commentary, he goes into depth on how the book made such an impression on him, etc. -

Re: the book
Sun, May 30, 2004 - 10:48 AMI agree, both books are fascinating. I haven't seen the film version of Last Exit to Brooklyn, but I loved the interpretation of Requiem. Anyone who liked Requiem should check out Arronofsky's other film, Pi. He has some other films in developement, and anyone interested should check him out on imdb.com.
By the way, if any of you didn't know, Hubert Selby died just a few weeks ago. Sad, really, he was a true talent.

Re: the book
Fri, June 11, 2004 - 11:45 PMI've actually owned the book for quite a few years now, just never got around to reading it (I have about 30 other books that I still need to get through that I own, I only recently got back into reading!) But I'll have to make an effort to make this the next one I read. I do remember reading the first couple of pages and from what I recall it seems the movie is very close to the book.
